Regional Connectivity to St. Kitts Becomes Easier with InterCaribbean Airways Service

Basseterre, St. Kitts (23 February 2023) – The St. Kitts Tourism Authority today announced the initiation of direct flights to and from Barbados with interCaribbean Airways (ICA) service.  This partnership is a strategic step towards making regional travel more accessible to the island thus further connecting St. Kitts to the wider Caribbean.

"Prior to the pandemic, the Caribbean was the second-largest source market of tourism for St. Kitts," said Honourable Marsha T. Henderson, Minister of Tourism, International Transport, Civil Aviation, Urban Development, Employment, and Labour. "Since 2020, restrictions and lack of airlift across the Caribbean have severely impacted arrival numbers.  The initiation of service with ICA will re-open St. Kitts to quick, reliable, and accessible travel across the islands and further support tourism expansion for the destination."

Service to Barbados commences on Sunday 12th  March 2023. The SKB to Barbados (BGI) flight will fly three times a week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with capacity for 30 travellers. Additionally, the BGI service offers one stop connecting flights to Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Dominica, and Georgetown, Guyana.

"We are thrilled to initiate service with ICA this spring, as the service will allow travellers to move smoothly across islands," said Ellison "Tommy" Thompson, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.  “These direct flight options with ICA allow St. Kitts to be more accessible to regional travellers, while opening the doors to our many wonderful tourism offerings, exciting "Summer of Fun" events, and one-of-a-kind experiences."

“Over the last 31 years, interCaribbean Airways has made great strides towards our goal of becoming a truly complete, Pan-Caribbean airline,” said Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman, interCaribbean Airways. “The addition of service between St. Kitts and Barbados allows us to connect regions like never before. We are excited to continue expanding access to intra Caribbean travel and doing our part to drive further tourism recovery across the region.”

St. Kitts Named Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination at World Travel Awards 2022

Basseterre, St. Kitts (12 September 2022) – St. Kitts was awarded the title of Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination 2022 at the 29th World Travel Awards, which is regarded as a milestone event in the travel calendar. Famed for its unspoiled beauty and magnificent natural wonders, St. Kitts is commonly ranked amongst the most beautiful destinations worldwide.

The World Travel Awards is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence which honours destinations trailblazing the sector through leadership, innovation and travel success. Its annual award programme is renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive in the global industry. The award ceremony is attended by the industry's key decision-makers, figureheads, influencers, and media.

Scuba divers of all ages and abilities delight in St. Kitts’ glorious underwater world, with many sites virtually unexplored. Bordered by the Caribbean and the Atlantic, the island offers a range of options, from shipwrecks of historic colonial battles, near-shore reefs to subaquatic caves. Underwater visibility ranges from 30 to 100 feet deep, meaning travellers will have crystal-clear views of walls, ledges, under hangs, coral towers, and sunken ships, all swarming with sea life.

“St. Kitts is no stranger to outstanding success. Being crowned best of the best in Caribbean dive destinations is not only a testament to our beautiful and diverse underwater landscapes, but also to our exceptional dive operators and partners that make each journey memorable for visitors,” said Honourable Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism, International Transport, Civil Aviation, Urban Development, Employment, and Labour. “The quality of our diving is one of our best kept secrets. This recognition solidifies our place as a competitive choice for divers of all levels. These experiences add value to our visitors’ holidays and encourage greater spending leading to improved economic activity at a time when we are rebuilding the industry..

This award is extremely important because the destination fought relentlessly to rebut the adverse effects of the untimely pandemic. “WTA recognizing and celebrating our underwater landscapes, near-shore reefs, subaquatic caves, and shipwrecks reinforces the importance of protecting and preserving our natural resources. Congratulations to “sweet sugar city St. Kitts” for being crowned the 2022 Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination,” shared Ellison “Tommy” Thompson, CEO of St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

Scuba diving in St. Kitts includes reef diving, as the reefs provide a good hiding place for underwater creatures like Spotted Drum, High Hat Arrow Crab and large lobsters. Divers also love partaking in wreck dives. More than 400 ships have sunk off the shores of St. Kitts, with only a dozen or so having been identified to date. New divers can take advantage of resort courses, which are offered at many properties to introduce travellers to the world below without having to be a Certified Scuba Diver.
